You can place a hold from the staff client catalog from either the search results screen or the individual title and items screen.
From the search results, you can click on the Place Hold link to the right of each title to place a title level hold.
When you are looking at a title record and attached items screen, there are options to place three types of holds.
- Place Hold — The Place Hold button in the top part of the screen is used for placing a title level hold. Any item attached to the title record will fill a title level hold
- Volume Hold — In the Holdable column, you can click on the Volume Hold link to place a hold on any of the copies that are attached to the same volume record. This means they belong to the same library branch and have the same call number.
- Copy — In the Holdable column, you can click on the Copy Hold link to place a hold on a particular item. This type of hold is usually used for special purposes like a book that needs mending.
When you click on the Place Hold button or the volume or copy hold links, you get prompted to enter the patron’s barcode. If you don’t have the barcode, there’s a Patron Search button that pops up a patron search form that you can use to search for and select the patron record without leaving the current tab.
When you enter the patron’s barcode, the Pickup location and notification options are automatically set from the patron preferences, although you can change them if the patron wants something different for this particular hold. There’s also an option to Suspend this hold and, if checked, to optionally set an activation date.
Click Submit when you have completed the form.
After the hold is submitted, you will get the message Hold was successfully placed or another message if there was a reason the hold could not be placed.
