Patron Search

You can choose Search for Patron by Name from the Portal Page or from the option in the Search menu.  Searching will find all users, including staff users, and not just patrons.

The basic patron search screen looks like this:

The Name Keywords search box will search all the name fields, including name keywords, and a search on Taylor Thomas will find patrons named Thomas Taylor and Taylor Thomas.  This is also a “starts with” search, so a search for John will also find Johnson, etc.

The name keywords search is especially useful when you don’t know if a compound name is divided, hyphenated or not  — for example, Ann Smith Jones and James Harris-Randall.

Clicking on the down arrow next to the Search button gives you the advanced patrons search options.  Here you can search on many other pieces of information about the patron, either alone or in combination.

Patron search now includes Date of Birth options.  The DOB Month and DOB Day are exact date matches, and you can search for single digits with or without an initial zero (January is either 01 or 1.)  The DOB Year is searched as a “contains” search, so 85 will match 1985, 2085, 1852, etc.

Patron search results are presented in a grid.  You can click on blue column headings to sort, use the arrows and navigation tools above the grid on the right to page through a long list, change the number of rows or jump to a particular page.  You can use the down arrow to the right of the page number to configure the grid, adding or removing columns, etc.

You can select and preview patrons by using the checkbox next to each name or single-clicking on the row.  You can retrieve a patron from the preview by double-clicking on a row or clicking on the patron barcode or simply checking on an action like Checkout or Edit.
